  Where do I begin! Living in Auburn, CA for over 27 years and visited the original owner and location many times. Service, quality, consistently and value were stellar. Several years ago, La Bou changed location and owners; it has been downhill ever since! They were known for their croissants. So many to choose from, but my favorites were the chocolate and the ham & cheese. The croissants were flaky, buttery, large, soft with crisp edges and oh so fresh. I can literally taste it from my memories, however, this is no longer the case. Now, they are missing about half the butter it takes to make fresh croissant dough, the meat is two thin pieces that only fill 25 percent of a corner, and the Swiss is about half a slice. The dough is bread-like, not flaky and it is so dry. The crust was the only sign that butter had ever touched that croissant. Their prices have increased, portions and quality decreased and it resembles nothing like the original locations you find elsewhere. They clearly care more about padding their pockets as much as possible while sacrificing taste and quality at the customer's expense. I honestly have no idea how they are still in business. My review comes after giving them over half a dozen chances over the course of 3 years. It simply doesn't matter who is working, or managing or baking. I have yet to find a good local bakery who does it even close to the original La Bou owners. Save your money and head down the hill to another La Bou or another bakery. It will be worth the trip.
